A piece of junk mail might save us money????

March 25th, 2006 at 09:57 pm

Today, I got a piece of "junk mail" in the mail. It was an ad/offer to refinance my house on a flexible plan (four different payment amounts to choose from), lower interest rate AND their hook is that they'll pay for our property taxes for 2005. I could skip up to 2 payments on my mortgage as well. It sounds a bit too good to be true but for the sake of saving money, I will call them on Monday just to see how their program works. If it is a GOOD program to refinance our house, we may finally be able to pay off those pesky credit cards! I'm sure I'll be posting here in the next couple of days to tell everyone whether it was a scam or not.

Call them yes, and don't forget to Google a search for their name and 'scams" or 'complaints'...Good luck, if it ends up being a good deal, then GOOD FOR YOU!!!!

My gut feeling is, this is not a good thing. No one offers to pay your property tax for a year. Just be very careful. Any time, anyone offers to let you skip one or two payments, it is NOT a good deal for you!

Check the company out with the Better Business Bureau. Also check with your state (I believe they have to be licensed) for any complaints.

Watch out for the closing costs and fees. Just a guess, but that is probably where they will make their money if the interest rate is lower and they pay your property taxes as you said.

I do not think that you are doing a good thing. I do not trust these kinds of mails and I never follow their trace to respond. You have to be extra careful and do read the contract twice.
