Property Taxes.....

April 9th, 2006 at 01:36 am

We still haven't paid our property taxes and its because we don't have the money to PAY the property taxes. They are about $5,000 and I've been stressing on this one for the longest. How do I come up with $5,000 RIGHTNOW to get the county paid off so they don't start crawling down my back like the credit card companies? I'm afraid its going to end up in the realm of "gonna have to take out a loan." DH is looking for a part time job and we still have my mom to watch our son. I just had a phone interview for a slightly better paying job. I REALLY REALLY REALLY hope they call me in for a second interview. The job is closer to home too.

Boy, can I relate to the property taxes. I've got a bill that just beats yours! Fortunatly, I've got some money from my mom, she gifted me after a sale of some of her property..........and I had just put it aside. Well, out it comes this month!!

I wish I felt like I was getting a good deal for all that money, but I don't.

I am sorry, but I think property tax is a rip off. Most of it is for school taxes. I sent my child to private school her entire life and I certainly have no kids now. I sure hope you can come up with the money!

Can you call the county tax office and see if you can make installment payments without it affecting your credit?

Have you ever contested your property taxes? Here in Cook county you can go online and check your neighbors valuation. You should not have to pay more than the lowest valuation in your area.

Nope, never contested my property taxes. Maybe I should think about doing that.

You do have to pay that tax, man, or they will really chase your bank accounts as it happened to me a few years ago. I had to pay a fine as well, for not paying the damn tax right on time. I couldn’t take another job, but my poor husband had to. Good luck with your new job. They will call, don’t worry!
